Chromed tubular steel & Rio rosewood (extremely rare version)

The “Series 7” model (often referenced as model 3107) was designed by Danish designer Arne Jacobsen in 1955 for manufacturer Fritz Hansen.
It followed his "Ant" chair (1952), designed three years earlier for the canteen of the Danish brewery Novo Nordisk. It offered greater stability (four legs instead of three) and a wider range of uses.
Since its creation in 1955, the Series 7 has sold over 5 million units—a record for a molded wood designer chair. It was an immediate commercial success. Jacobsen himself said it was "a chair for all places," from the café to the boardroom.
In 1963, British photographer Lewis Morley took a portrait of Christine Keeler, a model and protagonist of the Profumo Affair political scandal in London.
She is sitting naked upside down on a Series 7 chair, her arms and the backrest concealing her body. This photo has become iconic in the history of photography, but
The chair used was not a genuine Series 7. It was an English copy with slightly different dimensions and design.
Jacobsen's chair nevertheless gained worldwide fame thanks to this image. The shell is made of nine layers of pressure-molded veneer (for good rigidity and a slim profile). These chairs are upholstered in Rio rosewood veneer, a tropical wood with a deep, warm grain. This wood has been protected since the 1990s: its harvesting is restricted by the Washington Convention (CITES), making the original vintage models extremely rare and sought after.
Arne Jacobsen: "I simply wanted to make a comfortable, beautiful, and stackable chair. The rest is not mine."
This version from the 60s-70s is extremely rare and is available at Galerie Bikini!
