RAYMOND LOEWY
Good condition, some signs of wear - one shelf missing
A rectangular storage unit from 1965, made of white and silver melamine. Its front features two double drawers topped by two drawers on the left, and a door on the right. The unit rests on six steel angle legs.
The front panels are made of ABS with thermoformed sockets in silver and black.
The publisher's sticker is inside one of the drawers.
'Ugliness doesn't sell', that's the concept of Raymond Loewy, the French star in the United States in the 50s. It was Raymond Loewy who invented "style".
He defines himself as an “industrial aesthetician” and finds himself to be the pioneer of industrial design.
He's going to live in the United States and revolutionize the practicality of everyday objects for North Americans. He's also the one who will create iconic logos like Lucky Strike and shapes known in every corner of the world (without exception), like the Coca-Cola bottle or the Lecreuset casserole dish. Yes, it's him!
It will evolve in the period that gives rise to the consumer society, and where work is at the heart of daily life activities.
Raymond Loewy will bring beauty and fun to the country after the gloom of the Second World War.
His philosophy: Streamline – beauty through function and simplification. And then came the MAYA method – Most Advanced Yet Acceptable, or TOMA in French (Très Osé Mais Acceptable – Very Daring But Acceptable).
For Raymond Loewy, desirability comes from outward appearance.
You can see it on this aesthetically unique and incredibly modern piece of furniture in silver, white, and black. It's available at Galerie Bikini!
