Kurt Østervig is a Danish designer born in 1912.
He is first and foremost a naval architect, which is evident in his fluid lines and sensuality.
He shifted towards furniture design when he collaborated with the E. Pedersen & Søn studio, among others.
Today he is recognized for his woodworking, particularly with oak, teak and rosewood.
This 1950s coffee table is one of his iconic pieces. It is known as “Surfboard”, “Elliptical”, or “Boomerang”.
Why this name? Its elliptical shape obviously resembles a surfboard. It also evokes the hull of a boat or the silhouette of a floating pontoon.
To continue with the theme of boats, it is made of teak or rosewood, with a solid wood base (often oak or beech) which provides contrast with the tabletop.
Her feet are slightly angled, in a “V” shape.
It was never produced on a large scale or industrially, unlike other Danish designers of the same era.
This original vintage piece is stamped under the top: "CFC Silkeborg Made in Denmark"
